Mental health affects over 1 billion people worldwide, making struggles like depression and anxiety some of the most common issues of our time. Alarmingly, this number has grown 25% in the last decade. Beyond the individual, mental health challenges impact their loved ones; it strains relationships, creates emotional stress, and leads to financial burden due to treatment costs.

Music can counter these in powerful ways, as it reduces stress hormones like cortisol, releases dopamine, and it can distract oneself from negative thoughts. From this, many people who struggle with anxiety find comfort in music, including me.

From a young age, despite having no musical background, my parents encouraged me to begin piano lessons at the age of 5. While piano is a common hobby, I used it as a sanctuary. Whether I was feeling sad, stressed, frustrated, or disappointed, I could turn to the piano.

This love for playing instruments inspired me to choose a second instrument, the French horn. Even though it was challenging to learn, I used this to enhance my safe space. Since I first-hand experienced the healing property of music, especially in a world where most don’t yet recognize it as therapy, it sparked my desire to create a blog named “The Key for Healing,” dedicated to raising awareness for others dealing with similar challenges.

Now, I have been given the opportunity to grow my personal way to cope with anxiety into “The Key For Healing,” a blog dedicated to sharing the soothing power of music. While still growing, this project hopes to connect with others and spread awareness of music therapy, one blog at a time.
